Artist Crush: Martín Azúa

A while ago I came across this amazing talented artist Martín Azúa. I am so impressed with his art. My very favorite is where he uses natural processes as a strategy for design. He is  also a super talented designer. See more of his incredible work and portfolio.

Russian nesting dolls,Baboushkas,Matryoshkas.

I was around 10 when I was given my first matryoshka from Russia. As I recall it was a set of three. Just that doll within another doll , with in another doll an so an so…… It made me dream and dream to one day go to that country. Then I learned of the great museums and the idea of everybody been equal. So my dream grew and then came true. I went to Russia (at that time that was the name) as a student. A cheap cheap trip.  And for the first time I  really fell (well at the time I thought so) in love with a French boy from the tour so I was on a cloud in this very  different country.  But of course at that time I did not completely realize people were not happy with their regime. I only had eyes for the museum paintings (overall  from  Wassily Kandinki and impressionists) and you can imagine for who else. I  bought a lot of matryoshka to take home as gifts and a typical Russian scarf that I wear on my hair and will never forgot he told me you look like a lovely matriuska. From then my love for matryoshka was for ever. I also became a fan of his favorite singer at that time Kate Bush and the funny part is, later I discovered she sings  a song call Babushka  a synonym of Matryoshka ( It means headscarf women, grand mother). Never saw him again.

The classical matryoshka has been there for ever, but it has not  been very long where there has been a trend of objects inspire by matryoshkas.

Here are some of my favorites, although some of them appear to have been around for a bit, they´re classics to me.
